A protest carried out by the Youth Congress workers at Thiruvananthapuram turned violent on Wednesday after stones were reportedly hurled at the protesters from the hostel of the Kerala University. The march was reportedly taken out in connection with the row engulfing the Election Commission of India.
Youth Congress alleged that Students' Federation of India (SFI) was behind the stone pelting. The clashes soon turned into a three-cornered altercation involving the Kerala Students' Union (KSU) along with the Youth Congress and the SFI.
Heavy police force was deployed at the site and the force used baton-charge to disperse the protesters.
Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan visited the site and so did several prominent leaders of both the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF).
